Moonfleet Manor is a Georgian country house hotel overlooking Lyme Bay and surrounded by beautiful farmlands. Although this is a family orientated hotel with a focus on keeping children entertained whilst the parents relax - the hotel is full of antiques! At first I thought “no ways-children and antiques, this can only end badly!”.
But then the friendly staff and the relaxed atmosphere persuaded me that this was really a child friendly hotel. The first thing that greeted me as I opened the front door was a row of little wellies in a variety of different bright colours. The next thing I noticed was of course the beautiful antique décor – this is a hotel which prides itself on it’s history.
We were allocated to the ‘Falkner’ room (a room the size of a small tennis court). The room was decorated with beautiful chandeliers and lovely antiques. The floor was slightly slanted but this only added to the feeling of ‘old world charm’. Our daughter had a blast practicing her newly acquired walking skills in her huge new bedroom.
The hotel offers all sorts of excellent kids facilities and services. There’s a lovely kids den and outside play area especially nice for the young children. The kids even have their own eating area with a special kids buffet – followed by an evening movie! A baby sitter was arranged for us on short notice (thanks Maggie for giving up your Sunday evening to look after our daughter). And we had a lovely meal in the hotel’s restaurant – the food was tasty and well presented.
By the time we got back to the room our little English rose was fast asleep.
Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to test the helicopter service but maybe next time. This is truly a magnificent hotel for families with small children who want to escape to the countryside.
