In the UK & Ireland are many ways of phoning home cheap. I use a company called Alpha Telecom. You can open account online with them and top up as needed. I find that sometimes with all the very cheap phone cards that the quality is not so good.
You can register your phone / mobile number to avoid entering all your account details and PIN before making the call. Even create own speed dail. Also have online account facility to see how much the call cost and keep record of the calls.
I know it can be cheaper to Skype, but not everybody has Skype in SA.
Rates from via non-toll free number is:
South Africa Landline: 8c
SA Mobile: 18c
European cents per min.
If you use their toll free number it cost 1c pm extra.
